Brent Music for Mental Health Programmes: Adults

Research has shown that music can have a positive effect on mental health, and working with others on creative pursuits is one of the ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’ championed by the World Health Organisation (WHO). If you’re an adult experiencing mental health or well-being challenges, you are warmly invited to join musicians from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for fun, creative music sessions to listen to and create music alongside professional musicians. Monthly sessions are evidence-based and designed to provide respite and improve mood, delivered by our specially trained musicians and Workshop Leaders.

At each session, you’ll get the chance to meet professional musicians and work together with other participants to create brand-new pieces of music and songs. You’ll be supported to try out instruments and devise melodies, lyrics, rhythms and styles for your pieces, expressing your thoughts, feelings and emotions.

No prior musical experience is required to take part, and all genres or types of music will be explored. Instruments will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you already play.

Upcoming dates:

  • Monday 8 July 2024, 2pm – 3.15pm at Silver Jubilee Park, Townsend Lane, London, NW9 7NE
  • Monday 8 July 2024, 3.30pm – 4.45pm at Silver Jubilee Park, Townsend Lane, London, NW9 7NE

Brent Music for Mental Health Programmes: Adolescents

In 2024, the RPO will offer two five-week creative music-making projects specially designed for young people ages 12-18 who are experiencing mental health challenges. Projects will offer weekly creative sessions where participants can try out instruments, meet other young people interested in music, and work with our professionals to create brand-new pieces of music and songs. Each project will culminate in a celebratory sharing session, sharing participants’ new musical creations with family and friends.

Dates are currently being confirmed for these projects, but will likely take place in Jan/Feb and June/July 2024.
