The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) and Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra (ABYSO) are delighted to announce a new partnership bringing together ABYSO’s aspiring young musicians with RPO professionals. Established to offer the highest quality professional training and performance opportunities, over the next five years the partnership aims to develop cross-cultural musical experiences in both the UK and Caribbean.
Our central objective is to support the development of the ABYSO and expand the opportunities available to Antigua’s talented young musicians. In March 2024, the ABYSO has invited 13 musicians from the RPO to Antigua to join members of the Kanneh-Mason family, and guest artists, to lead the island’s Music to Inspire Festival. This unique week-long Festival offers ABYSO’s aspiring young musicians an unprecedented opportunity to hone their musicianship and technical skills, learning from the world’s finest professional instrumentalists while equally encouraging ABYSO’s young talent to hear world-class musicians in their locality on the island. It is our hope that this partnership model becomes an annual highlight of ABYSO’s work, inspiring these enormously talented young people to set their sights high and pursue their musical ambitions.
