Jennifer Pike Violin
Violinist Jennifer Pike has been heralded for her ‘dazzling interpretative flair and exemplary technique’ (Classic FM). She joins the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to perform Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. Described by legendary violinist Joseph Joachim as ‘the heart’s jewel’, this magnificent concerto is rightly considered one of the greatest masterpieces of the violin repertoire; from its unusual opening with the soloist entering first, through to its sparkling Allegro finale.
Many listeners will know ‘Vltava’ from Smetana’s Má Vlast – an evocative orchestral picture of the river that flows through Prague, filled with ebbing and flowing woodwind and strings. Completing the programme, Chloé van Soeterstède conducts Dvořák’s Symphony No.7. Infused with Dvořák’s Czech heritage, this Romantic symphony combines soaring string themes, roaring brass, atmospheric percussion and dancing woodwind.
