Explore enchanting worlds with the RPO’s Principal Associate Conductor, Alexander Shelley. Mendelssohn captures the wonder and wit of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream, whilst Ravel’s characterful Suite from Mother Goose embraces the joyful world of childhood fairytales. Stravinsky’s ballet score for The Firebird also delves into the world of fairytales with spellbinding music that tells tales of the glowing Firebird, magical feathers, princesses, princes and palaces.

A contemporary of Ravel and Stravinsky, Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2 ranges from unashamed lyricism to a thrillingly energetic finale – the perfect showpiece for Japanese virtuoso, Fumiaki Miura (RPO Artist-in-Residence, 2021–22).

Pre-concert lecture and talk 6.15pm with Dr Simon Desbruslais, Lecturer in Music, School of Drama, Music and Screen at the University of Hull.
