On Sunday 3 September, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) returned to perform in Wembley Park and joined with local artists and performing groups for Wemba’s Dream: Join the Journey, a festival performance of music, dance, poetry and carnival arts that celebrated the unique and diverse communities of Brent, two years after the first instance of Wemba's Dream.

On Tuesday 15 August, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra made its annual appearance at the BBC Proms with a sell-out concert of Ligeti, Beethoven and Shostakovich, with Music Director Vasily Petrenko conducting and soloist Alexandre Kantorow, who made his Proms debut.
What does it mean to be human? What is our place in the world? What are we dreaming of?
These are fundamental questions that humans have pondered for centuries and composers have attempted to answer through music.
In the 2022–23 season with Music Director Vasily Petrenko, we took a journey through the facets of the human character with music as our guide. Prokofiev invited us to feel the ecstasy of the first flush of love, Mahler transported us to a space beyond this world, Berlioz immersed us in a psychedelic dreamscape and Grieg guided us through our planet’s breath-taking landscapes.
On Wednesday 7 June the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's Journeys of Discovery series with Music Director Vasily Petrenko came to a close in Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall with two pieces on the theme of Conflict, from the scale of the interpersonal to the immeasurable tragedies of war, in Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1 and Shostakovich's Symphony No.8. Joining the Orchestra was Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii, who had performed with us for a tour across his home country in May to a resounding reception.
